The intent is to provide a well-rounded environment that allows students of all ages to learn about self-defense, increase awareness, and maintain a high level of physical conditioning. While we encourage and even push students to get better, our programs are designed to let them progress at their own pace. It’s the best way to ensure their abilities and confidence are maximized.

MARCELO "BOB" LUCENA 5TH DEGREE BLACK BELT HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Professor Marcelo is a 5th degree black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr.

He started training in 1993 at the birthplace of Jiu jitsu in the original Barra Gracie, where he got his black belt in 2000.

Barra Gracie was multiple times adult world champion team at that time and Professor Marcelo was part of the golden generation, having shared the mats with legends like Renzo Gracie, Gordo, Mission Jiu-Jitsu Academy, Soca, Roleta, Tinguinha, Ryan Gracie, Pé de Pano, Roger Gracie and many others. 

He was a member of the Brazilian National Team that came to the 1st international Jiu Jitsu tournament: The 1995 Pan American, Irvine, CA.

He also competed on the 1st Jiu Jitsu World Championship in 1996 Rio de Janeiro.

With over 30 years of experience in training, competing and teaching, with many accomplishments as a competitor, he also understands the benefits of building strong relationships and friendships through jiu jitsu helping his students to achieve their goals.

He has been teaching in California for 8 years.
